ABOUT
Based in Washington, DC, the orchestra was founded 30 years ago by Argentine Maestro Sergio Alessandro Buslje, who noticed that orchestras rarely performed music by Latin American composers. Since then, the orchestra, known as PASO, has premiered new works by Latino composers and regularly performed music by Latin American greats. But where PASO has really made its mark on the concert scene is with its sell-out tango shows- spectacular high-energy performances of traditional tangos and nuevo tango, many arranged by Maestro Buslje himself.

Lo Que Vendra by Astor Piazzolla
Piazzolla arranged this version in the 1960's when he did not have a regular violinist in his quintet. Polish violinist, Szymsia Bajour, was considered the best tango violinist in Argentina at that time. and Piazzolla arranged this version to showcase Bajour's virtuosity. The result was a tango on the cutting edge, representing a significant turning point for the future of tango.
Al Parque de Los Deseos by Jorge L. Martinez
Martinez, from Córdoba, Argentina, has spent considerable time in Medellín, Colombia, a city he holds dear because of its historic affinity for the tango. He wrote this milonga to honor Medellín.
Kicho by Astor Piazzolla
Written as a tribute to Piazzolla's double bassist, Enrique "Kicho" Díaz, who played with Piazzolla from 1960-1977, the melody is played by the double bass with a long cadenza at the beginning to show off the mastery of the double bass player.
Chimango by Pablo Jaurena
Composed in 2022 especially for Tango sin Fronteras , this tango is dedicated to Pablo Jaurena's best friend, Damián Torres. Chimango is the nickname he gave to Torres. The chimango is a hawk native to Córdoba, Argentina, where Torres and Jaurena were both born.
Dartmouth by Pedro Giraudo
This tango was inspired by Giraudo's visit to Dartmouth College where he was playing and teaching in 2021. Once back in NYC, he wrote this tango with the theme moving from his first energetic impressions to a more nostalgic reflection of his time in Dartmouth.
Una Decada by Ariel Pirotti
Pirotti, pianist, composer, and arranger wrote this tango to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Orquesta de Tango of the National University of Argentina, of which he is the director and pianist. This tango reflects the style o of tango composer, Raul Garello.
Retrato de Alfredo Gobbi by Astor Piazzolla
Alfredo Gobbi was a violinist and tango composer whom Piazzolla greatly admired. Gobbi's playing was described as sweet and melodic. Piazolla said that Gobbi was the "father of all of us who made the tango modern". He wrote this tango in Gobbi's honor.
A Mi Hermano Fueyero by Damian Torres
Fueye means bandoneón in lunfardo, the street slang from Argentina made popular in tango lyrics of the 1920's and 1930's. Damian Torres is a bandoneón player from Córdoba, Argentina and he dedicated this song to his close friend and fellow bandoneón player also from Córdoba, Pablo Jaurena. This song celebrates the fraternal bond between bandoneón players.
Una Vuelta Al Centro by Marco Blandon Correa
Blandón, who is from Medellín, recounts as a small child, whenever his parents left the house, he would ask, "Where are you going?" The answer was always "hacer una vuelta al centro" (take a spin downtown). This lively milonga is fast-paced with dominant Colombian-Caribbean rhythms throughout.
